Participation in the CSI Singapore – Kyoto University Joint Symposium 2025
From November 24 to 26, 2025, the CSI Singapore – Kyoto University Joint Symposium 2025 was held at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Our center was represented by Vice-Director Sidonia Fagarasan and Professor Kenji Chamoto.
- Prof. Sidonia Fagarasan “Metabolic Regulatory Pathways and Anti-cancer Responses”
- Prof. Kenji Chamoto “The Role of Fatty Acid Oxidation in Cancer Immunotherapy”
CSI stands for the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore. It is one of the Research Centers of Excellence (RCE) programs established in 2007 by The National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Education, and is hosted by the National University of Singapore (NUS).
This symposium was the second installment, following the inaugural event hosted primarily by the Graduate School of Medicine at Kyoto University in academic year 2024. Attendees included Professor Ashok Venkitaraman, Director of CSI, Dr. Nagahiro Minato, President of Kyoto University, and Professor Eng Chye Tan, President of NUS.
Kyoto University and NUS have an existing Academic Exchange Agreement. Furthermore, a student exchange agreement is in place between the Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Most recently, the CCII and CSI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 14, 2025, primarily focused on research collaboration.
The three-day symposium was consistently well-attended, featuring numerous research presentations by investigators from both institutions. Following each presentation, the Q&A sessions were so lively and enthusiastic that the moderators had a challenging time concluding the discussions.
The working discussion on the final day included an exchange of opinions regarding the implementation of a student exchange program hosted by the Singapore side. Additionally, the 3rd symposium is anticipated to be held in Kyoto.
