Donation by Mr. Tadashi Yanai of Fast Retailing Co. to support biomedical research at Kyoto University
Major donation by one of Japan’s foremost entrepreneurs aims at supporting groundbreaking research in cancer immunology and regenerative medicine at Kyoto University.


Mr. Tadashi Yanai, Chairman and CEO of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., made a generous donation to support research undertaken by Professor Tasuku Honjo, Director of the Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and Immunobiology (CCII), and Professor Shinya Yamanaka, Director of the iPS Cell Research Institute and Chairman of the Kyoto University iPS Cell Research Foundation.

Mr. Yanai made donations to CCII on both April 22 and June 17, 2020, aiming to support advancements in the field of “PD-1 inhibitory cancer immunotherapy” at CCII and to foster the training of future researchers in cancer immunotherapy. Donations will be managed within the “Yanai Fund”, established at Kyoto University on April 22.

In light of this donation, Provost and University Vice-President Nagahiro Minato expressed his gratitude to Mr. Yanai for his profound understanding of the University’s research activities and his exceptional support.
