Working at CCII
Established in April 2020, CCII is devoted to advancing immunology and cancer research. Our goal is to transform society through science. Our aim is to become a world-leading research institute fostering discoveries that will enable us to control and conquer cancer and other diseases by harnessing the power of the immune system. CCII offers a variety of positions to Japanese and international scientists, including post-docs, tenure-track junior professor positions, and positions for full professors and department leaders.

Working at CCII is exciting because…

“The members of CCII at every level share the ultimate goal of making immunotherapy better, and the atmosphere of high enthusiasm and motivation to pursue this goal always encourage us to challenge scientific difficulties.” (Masaki Tajima, Assistant Professor, Division of Integrated High-Order Regulatory Systems)

“It is exciting to work at CCII, because I can contribute to the development of medical care.” (Tatsuya Nishiguchi, Technician, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“At CCII I can help with cutting edge research that not only expands scientific knowledge, but also helps save lives. This makes working here very exciting and gives me a great sense of accomplishment.” (Pedro Cruz, Technician, Division of Integrated High-Order Regulatory Systems)

“It is really a privilege to be part of CCII, supporting the cutting edge research to make immunotherapy a better treatment for cancer patients. There are many experienced seniors, it is a work environment that teaches a lot of things. It leads to my own growth and expands the range of things I can do.” (Hiroko Nakajima, Technician, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“The CCII is the place where you can see the trajectory of discoveries that will change people’s worlds in the future. With many professional researchers, various themes and the latest equipment, I think you can achieve your best in here. I am a doctor, so I feel very happy to be here at the start of way for patients’ benefits.” (Akiko Yoshida, Researcher, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

“I believe that the root of all diseases, including cancer, metabolic diseases, and autoimmune diseases, is the same. Most interesting about this lab is that basic researchers and clinical researchers can work together across the boundaries on immunity, which regulates homeostasis of the body and various diseases.” (Maiko Sumikawa, Researcher, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“Discovering unexpected and incredible results is most exciting!” (Shuhei Hirose, Researcher, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“Everyone in the lab is very very kind and easy to work with! This laboratory is equipped with a number of state-of-the-art equipment and environment. And a variety of experiments are conducted. I can learn those techniques.” (Mai Kiyono, Technician, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“Working in Honjo’s lab provides me with an opportunity to apply top-notch technologies to investigate our scientific. questions. In addition, our supervisors are very supportive who are always inspiring us to come up with novel ideas. I enjoy the working environment here very much. I am currently applying single cell RNA-Seq to the samples of lung cancer patients in attempt to identify biomarkers for responders of immune checkpoint inhibitors. I find this exciting as our findings may be potentially translated into meaningful applications directly benefit humans.” (Leong Man Long, Researcher (JSPS), Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“It is so exciting and rewarding to work with the experts of immunology and cancer, and I am happy to work with my kind colleagues. l feel great significance in my job at this research institute, because there are many people suffering from cancer and irAEs in Japan. I am working every day with the hope that our work will help someone in the future.” (Erika Furukawa, Technical Assistant, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

“I find it highly appealing that CCII researchers from diverse backgrounds unite and strive together towards a common research goal. I aspire to leverage my own research originality and contribute to the advancement of this research field.” (Yuta Matsuoka, Assistant Professor, Multi-Omics Platform)

”Prof. Honjo is one of the most famous immunologists in the world. It is a rare opportunity for me to learn from him and work in this high-level lab. As a physician, I witness the great success for PD-1 blockade therapy to treat a variety of malignancies.” (Zou Yixin, Researcher, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“For me it is most exciting to be able to belong to the laboratory of Dr. Tasuku Honjo, a great researcher!” (Kenji Morii, Technician, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)

“The main reason I work here is that I can make use of my experience in experiments. Everyone here is friendly.  We help each other with variable knowledge and leadership, so projects proceed in a smooth way and the working environment is comfortable.  Also, CCII has an international atmosphere.  It’s very stimulating to be able to talk with international students from overseas.” (Yunhong Hotta, Senior Technician, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

“It is exciting to work here, because CCII is a first cancer immunology research hub in Japan with great scientists, interesting research projects and cutting-edge facilities for discovering medicine with highly urgency against cancer disease that make me exciting to work here.” (Sharif Moinul Hasan, Technician, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

“Because of the CCII’s feature as the first research center in Japan specialized for the promotion of cancer immunotherapy, while belonging members have various research or clinical backgrounds, all members share the common goal of ‘immunological control of cancer’, which therefore allows them to share topics and develop collaborative research smoothly, based on the shared goal.” (Hirotake Tsukamoto, Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

”The CCII is the place where you can see the trajectory of discoveries that will change people’s worlds in the future.

“All members are cooperative and easy to conduct research. Let’s work together for the development of medical care!” (Sayaka Washizu, Technical Assistant, Division of of Integrated High-Order Regulatory Systems)

“My dream is to be a medical scientist and promote fundamental research into clinical application. I believe we will find the best ways to overcome immunotherapy resistance and maximize benefit for cancer patients in this excellent experimental platform of CCII.” (He Hao, Researcher, Division of of Integrated High-Order Regulatory Systems)

“The ultimate goal is to propose a management strategy for irAE that does not compromise the anti-tumor effects from an immunological perspective. It is my dream to eliminate autoimmune phenomena associated with cancer immunotherapy from the world. Furthermore, I believe that by discovering connections between cancer immunology and autoimmune research, we can create new value.” (Kosaku Murakami, Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Immunology and Cancer Immunotherapy)

“The CCII stands out not only for its immunotherapeutic research but also for its dedication to pure research that uncovers nature’s core workings and unearths unexpected tools. It is truly incredible and inspiring to be part of a brilliant community galloping towards groundbreaking discoveries.” (Nasim Begum, Associate Professor, Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine)
